BACKGROUND
Welcome to the website of the Centre for Sandwich programmes,
Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. The
genesis of the Centre for Sandwich Programmes (CESAP) could be
traced to a vision. A vision to put qualitative university
education on the wheels and make it readily available to the
Nigerian populace in particular and other willing foreign
nationals. Consequent upon this, the university senate by it's
decision of 28 December 1995 approved that all sandwich part
time programmes be under the control of a Management Board/Faculty.
The terms of reference of the Board are:
a. To formulate
policy guidelines for the running and management of the centre,
including admission, conduct and release of examination results,
and preparation of academic calendar;
b. To
consider and approve Annual Budget estimates as well as Annual
Report including Financial Report;
c. To make
recommendations from time to time to the Senate through the
Vice-Chancellor on the improvement, expansion, rationalization
and any other matters relating to part-time first degree and
sub-degree programmes of the university and;
d. Any other
that matter that may be referred to the Board from time to time
by the Vice-Chancellor.
The main objective of the Centre
is to provide opportunities for working class
Nigerians and
other nationals to acquire new skills both for immediate and
future needs. Thus, our flexible schedule of lectures is
uniquely suited for working adults desirous of obtaining
undergraduate degrees and candidates preparing for direct entry
into university via certificate and diploma programmes. CESAP is recognized as the most structured, innovative and dynamic
part-time programmes in Nigeria. We produce study materials for
our students and now the only such Centre with independent website.
The Centre operates in three towns in Ogun State, within a radius
of twenty kilometers. These are Ago-Iwoye where the Main and Mini
campuses are located, Ijebu-Igbo, which houses Abusi Edumare Annexe
and the SEICO Annexe in Ijebu-Ode. However, since the relocation
of the College of Agriculture to Aiyetoro, the Centre is contemplating
have an annexe there to cater for Agricultural Science students.
As from the
1996/97 academic session, the centre started full co-ordination
of sandwich and part-time programmes of the College of
Agricultural Sciences, Faculties of Science, Education, Law,
Arts, Social Sciences, Management Sciences with about 40
programmes (degree and sub-degree) available to the students. As
at 2002/2003 session, the total number of programmes had risen
to about 80.
One of the
cardinal goals of the centre is the provision of high quality
academic programmes backed with adequate infrastructural
facilities for teaching as well as research.
